Poetic Asides with Robert Lee Brewer - 2011 April PAD Challenge: Day 19

Poetic Asides with Robert Lee Brewer - 2011 April PAD Challenge: Day 19

Today is a "Two for Tuesday" prompt. In fact, it's one of my favorite prompts of each challenge. Poets can:
  1. Write a love poem.
  2. Write an anti-love poem.
"The Other Woman"

A water pump backing plate
is sitting in my living room floor,
to accompany the water pump
laid on my wicker chair
that goes to the long tube headers
that feed relief to the mufflers
rumbling steady with exhaust
on a 65' Fastback Mustang
named Lacey.
The other woman in his life.
She sits in the garage, in parts...
not yet whole, but whole in his heart.
No she does not run, but one day
the joy she will bring
when she finally hums,
is enough for me to become
tacit in complaints, burying them
in flexplates and parts
knowing one day, the first ride
will go to me.

  1. Fun and so true in some households. There's a dirt track not far from here and starting in about May, many men turn their fancies to the rumble of their second loves.

  2. We have a track near us, too. Thanks for your comment - I really appreciate it!
