Day Twenty-Four, Poetic Asides with Robert Lee Brewer - PoetryChallenge2011

Poetic Asides with Robert Lee Brewer - PoetryChallenge2011

For today's prompt, write a prayer poem. Your prayer poem could be religious, but it doesn't have to be. People can pray to make it to work on time. Or to be rich. Or even for the rain. It's completely up to you what you're poem is about. (I pray that everyone is respectful of each other's prayer poems today.)

"Allow Me"

Today, Lord let me allow
The sacrifice of your only son to
Lift me from the humaness of the world,
If only for a moment
To fully understand what it meant
When you said you "Loved the world so very much,
That you gave your only begotten son.
That whosoever believeth in him,
Shall not perish, but have everlasting life."
And remember this prayer,
In moments of strife.
Where it seems the world is crashing down on me,
Let it be
Visible, to see
The death that hung from a crucified tree,
And know that your love
Gives Grace from above,
Peace like wings from a dove
That covers, and hovers
Because he drew his last breath,
On penalty of death.
To save a sinner from wrath,
Allow me, that.
